Confessions of an IV Glutathione Devotee: My Deep Dive into Wellness and IV Infusions
I have previously been somewhat of a cynic when it comes to the power of IV vitamins and infusions. When my doctor husband first became involved in IV infusions, my first instinct also as a doctor, was to say, 'just have an orange' or 'have a multivitamin'. Well dear reader, how wrong I was.
Let me take you back to 2019 when, despite all assurances that I would in fact be the most chilled out bride that ever lived, I was suddenly immensely stressed about my skin, my pores and whether or not I would be this blushing, glowing bride everyone expects to be on their wedding day. I was working immensely long hours, night shifts, day shifts and everything in between shifts and boy did my skin tell that story. Enter IV Glutathione. And I was not prepared. I was convinced it would be a fad. It wasn't. It gave me skin softer than a puppy's bottom, a glow glowier than a glow worm's bottom and skin as even as a.... well you get the gist. It brightened, it revitalised and honestly now it's my go to. A big event and I need to quickly tackle the baggies under my eyes(thanks kids!)? IV Glutathione for red carpet readiness all the way.
So what is Glutathione and why is it such a big deal? Also known colloquially as the 'master antioxidant', Glutathione plays a crucial role in neutralising free radicals, combating oxidative stress, and protecting skin cells from damage caused by environmental aggressors such as UV radiation and pollution. Additionally, glutathione is involved in the regulation of melanin production, the pigment responsible for skin coloration. By inhibiting the activity of melanin-producing enzymes, glutathione can help fade dark spots, even out skin tone, and promote a brighter, more radiant complexion. Its ability to promote collagen synthesis and skin elasticity further enhances its anti-aging properties, making it a sought-after ingredient in skincare formulations and IV infusions alike.
And the benefits don't stop there. Let's talk Glutathione and hair. The antioxidant properties reduce oxidative stress of your scalp and hair follicles, potentially preventing hair loss and promoting healthy growth. It supports detoxification processes, removing toxins that can damage hair follicles, while its anti-inflammatory effects may soothe scalp conditions associated with hair loss. Glutathione's role in collagen synthesis and melanin regulation further contributes to hair strength, elasticity, and pigmentation. It is, in my humble opinion, one of our greatest, yet simplest, skin heroes we offer here at The Aesthetta clinic.
But why IV I hear you cry? Why not just take it orally? Well simply, the bioavailability isn't the same and thus the results are not the same. An oral tablet of glutathione simply won't give you that pre event skin prep glow you're looking for. Furthermore, oral supplementation of glutathione may cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, or stomach upset in some people. To really see the benefits, a 6 week course of once a week glutathione is as they say, a game changer.
Now here at The Aesthetta clinic we prefer to know if you're actually deficient in certain vitamins before we provide you with that boost. But we don't test for Glutathione and here's why. While outright glutathione deficiency is rare, some individuals may have lower-than-optimal levels of glutathione in their bodies due to various factors such as aging, chronic diseases, poor nutrition, environmental toxins, stress, and certain medications. Additionally, genetic variations may affect the body's ability to produce or utilise glutathione effectively so your levels don't tell us much anyway. While these individuals may not have a clinically diagnosed deficiency, they may still benefit from strategies to support glutathione levels.
It's no secret I'm a convert. Could IV Glutathione be the game changer for you that it is for me? Contact one of our medical professionals now to see if you're a suitable candidate for IV supplementation and join me in skin softer than a puppy's bum heaven.
